Paint Your Partner — A Playful Night of Camp Community
What happens when you put couples together, hand them a paintbrush and a blank canvas, and tell them to paint their partner?
Well… let’s just say we discovered that love may be in the eye of the beholder, and apparently, so is artistic talent!
Our recent Paint Your Partner event at Holden Family Campground was one of those evenings that reminded us why camping is about so much more than where you park your camper. It’s about the people you meet, the experiences you share, and the memories you make along the way.
The instructions were simple: look at your partner and paint what you see.
Some took their assignment very seriously. There was intense concentration, careful attention to details, and plenty of looking back and forth between their partner and their canvas.
Others seemed to take a more… creative interpretation of the assignment.
We saw portraits with glasses, hats, beards, colorful hair, big smiles, and some features that may have been slightly exaggerated for artistic effect. There were beautiful paintings, hilarious paintings, and a few that had everyone gathered around trying to figure out exactly who was supposed to be who!
And that’s what made the night so much fun. Nobody came expecting to be a professional artist. There was no judging, no pressure to make the perfect portrait, and definitely no requirement that the finished painting actually look like the person sitting across the table!
Instead, there was laughter. Lots of it.
There was playful teasing between couples, encouragement from fellow campers, and plenty of those little moments that happen when people are simply relaxed and enjoying themselves.
For a few hours, everyone had the same mission: paint the person sitting across from you and try not to laugh too hard while doing it.
And perhaps the best part was seeing the finished portraits lined up next to their very real-life models.
Let’s just say there was definitely a variety of results!
Some portraits were surprisingly good likenesses. Others captured a certain essence of the person. And a few may have captured an alternate version of reality. But every painting told a story.
A story about two people who were willing to sit down together, slow down for an evening, try something different, and not take themselves too seriously.
That’s the kind of experience we love creating here at Holden Family Campground. Because when you’re camping, you don’t always remember what campsite you stayed on or what time you went to bed.
You remember the people you laughed with. You remember the things you tried. You remember the nights that turned into stories you’ll tell later.
We’re pretty sure a few of these portraits are going to become stories for years to come!
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Paint Your Partner and brought your creativity, your sense of humor, and your willingness to have a little fun.
Some portraits were spot-on, some were a little more “artist’s interpretation,” and a few had everyone laughing! But that’s what made the night so much fun…and every painting was a one-of-a-kind reminder of the evening.
At Holden Family Campground, we’re not just creating activities. We’re creating opportunities to slow down, laugh a little, meet new people, and make memories that travel home with you.
And judging by the smiles in these photos, we’d say Paint Your Partner was a pretty colorful success!
