Pet Friendly Camping in Maine – Bring Your Best Friend

For many of us, a vacation just wouldn’t feel complete without the whole family—and that includes the four-legged members.

At Holden Family Campground, we know your dog isn’t just a pet. They’re part of the family, part of your everyday life and, very often, part of your best adventures.

So why leave them home when you head to Maine?

Bring them along!

Maine is a wonderful place to explore with your four-legged travel companion, and Holden Family Campground makes a great home base for enjoying it all together.

Whether your dog loves a good walk, riding along for a scenic drive, meeting new friends, or simply stretching out beside the RV while you relax, there are plenty of ways to make your Maine vacation enjoyable for everyone.

We Love Meeting Your Four-Legged Family Members

One of our favorite parts of being a pet-friendly campground is getting to meet the pets who come camping with you.

When we’re out and about around the campground, we’re always happy to stop and say hello.

Maybe we see you heading out on your morning walk. Maybe you’re taking an evening stroll around the campground.
Maybe your pup is relaxing outside your RV while you enjoy your coffee.
Don’t be surprised if we stop for a little visit!

We love learning their names, seeing their personalities and getting to know the four-legged campers who make their way to Holden Family Campground.

After all, they’re part of your camping family, and that makes them part of ours while they’re here.

Start With a Campground Walk

One of the simplest pleasures of camping with your dog is stepping outside in the morning and taking a walk.

There’s no rushing to get everyone out the door. No alarm clock telling you where you have to be. Just grab the leash, step outside and enjoy the fresh Maine air together.

Camping gives you a chance to slow down, and dogs are pretty good at reminding us to do exactly that.

They stop to investigate every new smell, watch the birds, listen to sounds we might overlook and seem perfectly content to enjoy the moment.
And isn’t that what vacation is supposed to be about?

Make Some Maine Memories Together

When you travel with your dog, you may find yourself experiencing Maine a little differently.

Instead of rushing from one attraction to another, you may find yourself taking a slower walk, sitting outside a little longer or finding places where your dog can enjoy the day right alongside you.

Fortunately, there are some great pet-friendly places within easy driving distance of Holden Family Campground.

Here are a few of our favorites to put on your Maine adventure list.

Winterport Winery — Winterport

If you’re looking for a relaxing afternoon outing where your four-legged family member can come along, Winterport Winery is worth a visit.

Located in nearby Winterport, this pet-friendly winery and cidery creates a variety of handcrafted fruit wines and ciders, featuring Maine-inspired flavors such as apple, pear, blueberry and cranberry.

The tasting room is also home to Penobscot Bay Brewery, giving you plenty of options to sample while enjoying a relaxed afternoon.

And the best part? Your dog doesn’t have to sit at home waiting for you to return.

Bring them along and settle into the cozy tasting room or head out to the covered porch and enjoy some time together.

It’s a great way to spend part of an afternoon without having to leave your best friend behind.

Let Your Dog Run at Bangor Dog Park

Sometimes your dog needs an adventure of their own.

Bangor Dog Park gives them the opportunity to run, play and burn off some of that vacation energy in a fully fenced, off-leash area.

The park has a double-gated entrance for added security, along with shady trees, benches and agility equipment.

And if your dog still has some energy left after playtime, you can head over to the wooded trails in Essex Woods behind the park. Those trails require dogs to remain on a leash, but they offer another opportunity to get outside and enjoy the Maine woods together.

Just remember to bring your own water and waste bags.

We want our doggie campers to be happy campers, too!

Take a Walk Along the Penobscot River

For a quieter outing, head to Waterfront Park in Bangor, where you and your dog can enjoy time together along the Penobscot River.

The beautiful boardwalk provides an easy place to stroll while taking in the water and the surrounding scenery. There are benches and picnic tables along the way, so you can stop for a rest, enjoy a snack or simply sit for a while and watch the river.

It’s the kind of outing that doesn’t require a big plan. Just grab the leash, take your time and enjoy being outside together.

Sometimes those simple walks turn into some of the nicest memories of a vacation.

And Just in Case…

We hope you never need one, but it’s comforting to know that an emergency veterinary hospital is just six minutes from Holden Family Campground.

When you’re traveling with a beloved pet, knowing that help is nearby can give you a little extra peace of mind.

Hopefully, your biggest concern during your stay will be deciding which trail to explore next or figuring out who gets the last treat!

Don’t Forget the Campfire

After a day of exploring, there’s nothing quite like coming back to your campsite.

Shoes come off. The day’s adventures get discussed. Dinner gets made. And eventually, the campfire comes to life. Your dog settles in beside you, probably hoping someone will drop something delicious.

The sun goes down. The campground gets quieter. And you sit together talking about everything you saw that day.

Your dog doesn’t care whether you visited a famous attraction or simply spent the afternoon relaxing at the campsite. They’re happy because they’re with you. And isn’t that really what they wanted all along?

The Best Travel Companions Have Four Paws

When you look back at your Maine vacation years from now, you may remember the places you visited, the meals you enjoyed and the beautiful scenery you discovered. But you may also remember something much simpler.

Your dog sitting beside you around the campfire. The excitement when you grabbed the leash and said, “Want to go for a walk?” A new adventure at the dog park. A peaceful stroll beside the river. An afternoon on the porch at Winterport Winery. The tired pup curled up in their favorite spot after a full day of exploring.

And maybe you’ll remember us stopping by to say hello to your furry family member during an evening walk. Those little moments become part of the vacation story too and a part of our memories.

At Holden Family Campground, we believe vacations are about spending time together, slowing down and making memories. And if your dog is part of your family, we want them to be part of those memories.

So pack the leash. Load up the treats. Bring the favorite blanket. And get ready for a Maine adventure with your best friend riding right alongside you.

Explore a little. Relax a little. Discover something new. Then come back to your campsite, gather around the campfire and enjoy the simple pleasure of being together. Because Maine isn’t just a place to visit. It’s a place to experience.

And some of the very best travel companions have four paws, a wagging tail and absolutely no idea how many miles you’ve traveled to get there.

Bring the whole family. Bring the dog. Bring your sense of adventure.

We’ll see you, and your furry family members, around the campground and around the campfire
